Gluten-Free on a Disney Cruise
Yes, you can eat gluten-free on a Disney cruise. Disney Cruise Line takes celiac disease seriously, and it felt safe for me. I never felt glutened on my cruise.
The food quality is another story. The desserts were incredible, but most gluten-free dinners were only okay.
Before we get started, let me introduce myself. My name is Amy, and I’m a Florida resident, Disney Annual Passholder, mom of the Florida Travel with Kids kids, and a Disney College of Knowledge graduate. I also have celiac disease, so I eat strictly gluten-free.
My last Disney cruise was on the Disney Fantasy in October 2026. Disney Cruise Line handles allergies the same way on every ship. Contact me if you’d like help booking a Disney cruise! I can help you walk through the steps to ensure DCL knows about your allergy, and guide you on how to navigate dining gluten-free on a Disney Cruise. Â

Gluten-free Disney cruise at a glance
- Safety: it felt safe for me, and I never felt glutened; the Crew Members took precautions seriously.
- Food quality: okay at dinner, with great desserts
- Before you sail: add your gluten allergy to your reservation at least 3 days ahead (your travel agent can do this!)
- Embarkation day: let a Crew Member know at Cabana’s (or Marceline Market), and they’ll direct you to where to order.
- Menus: gluten-free items are marked, and other items can be made gluten-free
- Buffet: point out what you want, and a cast member orders it gluten-free for you
- Pre-ordering: order tomorrow’s breakfast, lunch (if available), or island lunch (if available) from your dinner server
- Breakfast: gluten-free pancakes and Mickey waffles if you ask
- Room service: no hot breakfast, but gluten-free burgers, chicken tenders, and cookies the rest of the day
- Treats: gluten-free ice cream cones (ask for one), Mickey Bars, and gluten-free pizza on request
- Kids clubs: no outside food allowed in the Oceaneer Club or Oceaneer Lab
Please note that throughout this post, the restaurants I mention will be on the Fantasy. Many of these restaurants exist across other ships, although some other ship classes have different restaurants. How allergies work is the same across the board.

Is a Disney cruise safe for celiacs?
It felt safe for me. I never felt like I was glutened, and cross-contact never felt like an issue on my cruise. No one can promise a meal is completely gluten-free, though, so speak up every time you order.
Disney Cruise Line does not have separate gluten-free kitchens. It also doesn’t guarantee any food is allergen-free. Still, the crew took my celiac disease seriously at every meal.
Say “celiac disease” or “gluten allergy” when you order, not “gluten-free diet.” That tells your server it’s a medical need, not a preference.
How do you tell Disney Cruise Line about a gluten allergy?
Add your gluten allergy to your reservation before you sail. Log in to My Reservations and submit a Special Services request at least 3 days before your cruise.
On embarkation day, go to the Onboard Dining Session for guests with dietary needs. The time and place are in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.
Then tell your server at every meal on board. If you book with me, I add the allergy request to your reservation for you.
What do you eat on embarkation day?
If you eat lunch at Cabanas, the buffet, on embarkation day, tell a cast member that you have celiac disease. They will take care of you.
They use the same buzzer system as every other buffet meal. It takes longer, but my embarkation lunch felt safe and went fine.

Are Disney cruise menus marked gluten-free?
Yes. Gluten-free items are marked on the menus, and many other items can be made gluten-free. Always ask your server, and tell them about your allergy every time you order.
How does pre-ordering work on a Disney cruise?
You pre-order through your dinner server. At dinner, tell them what you want for the next day’s breakfast or lunch and which restaurant you’ll be in. It’s ready when you sit down.
You can also go over the next night’s dinner menu with your server. Ask for gluten-free changes ahead of time, or ask for a dish from another dining room’s menu.
Pre-ordering is an option, but they don’t always tell you about it. Ask on your first night.

How does gluten-free breakfast work on a Disney cruise?
Most Disney ships have a buffet breakfast and one sit-down restaurant open each morning. On the Disney Fantasy, the buffet is Cabanas. The adults-only brunch at Palo is another option, but it costs extra.
You can get gluten-free pancakes, waffles, and more. You just have to ask.
At the sit-down restaurant, order from the menu and tell your server you have celiac disease. They will tell you what is gluten-free or can be made gluten-free.
At Cabanas, you don’t serve yourself. Look at what’s out, and point out what you like. A cast member tells you if it is gluten-free or can be made gluten-free.
You then place an order and get a buzzer. When it buzzes, your food is ready.

How does gluten-free lunch work on a Disney cruise?
Lunch works the same way as breakfast. At Cabanas, point out what you like, place a gluten-free order, and wait for your buzzer.
At the sit-down restaurants, order from the menu, and your server gives you gluten-free options. Lunch is not always available as a sit-down option, so make sure to check your Navigator app. If it is, you can also pre-order the day before.Â
You can also ask for cookies with lunch. Based on the taste, I’m 99% sure they were Partake. They’re good, but not as good as the David’s cookies from room service.

What is gluten-free dinner like on a Disney cruise?
On the Disney Fantasy, you rotate between three main dining rooms: Enchanted Garden, Royal Court, and Animator’s Palate. Your servers move with you each night, so they get to know your allergy.
You order from the menu, and your server gives you gluten-free options. Most dinner options can be modified to be gluten-free.
It felt safe, but the food quality was only okay. They do have gluten-free bread service. While the bread is nothing special, it is so nice to have the option!

On my first night, I had an amazing lentil dal. It had lots of flavor and set my expectations high. Every dinner after that was not as good.
I usually lean toward international dishes, especially Asian food, since many are or can be gluten-free. One night, they offered to make a soba noodle dish with penne instead. That was not a good swap.
Rice noodles would have been a much better gluten-free substitute. I understand they can’t keep everything on a cruise line, but I can’t imagine swapping penne for soba noodles.Â
I’m not a big meat eater, and most of my gluten-free options were meat-based. Many were also bland and not seasoned.

It felt like they removed the sauce when it had gluten, instead of making a gluten-free one. It wasn’t terrible. In my experience, though, Disney’s parks and resorts do gluten-free much better than Disney Cruise Line.
Can you eat gluten-free at Palo and Remy?
Yes. Palo and Remy are the adults-only restaurants on the Disney Fantasy, and both cost extra. Add your allergy to your reservation, and tell your server when you sit down.
Palo has had gluten-free pasta and bread. If you want the chocolate soufflé, order it when you sit down so the kitchen has time to make it.
Remy can adjust its tasting menu for gluten-free. Menus at both restaurants change, so ask what’s gluten-free on your sailing.
Are desserts gluten-free on a Disney cruise?
Yes, many desserts are or can be made gluten-free! Desserts were the standout of my cruise. Every gluten-free dessert I had at dinner was incredible.
Mickey Bars are gluten-free too.

Are the ice cream cones gluten-free on a Disney cruise?
No, the regular cones are not gluten-free. Disney does have gluten-free cones, though. Ask a cast member for one.
Cross-contact can be an issue at the ice cream stations, so that is something to be mindful of.Â
Can you get gluten-free food at the pool deck quick-service spots?
Yes, but you have to ask. On the Disney Fantasy, the pool deck quick-service spot is Flo’s Café, with Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill, and Fillmore’s Favorites. Gluten-free options like gluten-free pizza are available.
You will have to wait, since it is prepared separately. It’s worth it if you want a quick lunch by the pool.
Is room service gluten-free on a Disney cruise?
Yes, there are several gluten-free room service options. However, breakfast room service is limited. There are no hot breakfast items, so no eggs, etc.Â
The rest of the day, room service has gluten-free options like burgers and chicken tenders. You can also order gluten-free milk and cookies. The cookies are David’s, the same gluten-free cookies sold at Disney World and Universal Orlando.
The All Hands on Deck cheese plate also comes with gluten-free crackers if you ask for them. Tell room service you have celiac disease every time you order.
Are there gluten-free drinks on a Disney cruise?
Yes. There are lots of gluten-free drink options on board. If you’re not sure about a cocktail or mixer, ask the bartender what’s in it.
Can you eat gluten-free on Disney’s private islands?
Yes. Both Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point have gluten-free BBQ options.
Pre-order your island lunch from your dinner server the night before. Your server tells you where to pick it up.

What about gluten-free food on port days?
Disney controls the food on the ship and on its private islands, not in port. If you go ashore or book a port adventure with food, plan for that meal yourself.
Pack gluten-free snacks for port days. You can also come back to the ship to eat if you don’t find anywhere that feels safe.
Can kids with celiac bring snacks to the Disney cruise kids clubs?
No. Outside food and drinks are not allowed in the Oceaneer Club or Oceaneer Lab at any time. Disney bans them because of allergy risks for all kids.
Plan your child’s meals and snacks around club time. Add your child’s gluten allergy to your reservation, and tell the counselors when you check them in.
The It’s a Small World Nursery is different. If you have a gluten-free baby, most of the nursery’s snacks are gluten-free. On our sailing, they offered yogurt (dairy), teething crackers, and bananas.Â
You can note that your baby is gluten-free when you check them in. We also sent pre-packaged nut-free snacks for our daughter.
We’re keeping our daughter gluten-free as a baby as part of a protocol to try to prevent celiac disease. I told the nursery staff that, and that it wasn’t a true allergy.
Is there allergy-friendly candy on Halloween on the High Seas?
Yes. My cruise was a Halloween on the High Seas sailing. Disney offers allergy-friendly candy for trick-or-treating that is free of the top 8 allergens. You just have to ask. Brands like Yum Earth and Sunbutter cups were available.Â
It’s also worth noting that most of the regular candy was also gluten-free. If you have no other allergies, it may be fine to get the regular candy. However, always check, as formulations and candy options on the ships can both change.
