Special Events at Universal Orlando
It’s always fun to visit Universal Orlando Resort, but today, let’s talk about the special events at Universal Orlando! Universal Orlando hosts several special events throughout the year, from family-friendly Mardi Gras festivities to Grinchmas to the largest Christian music festival in the US.
Is it worth visiting during the special events at Universal Orlando? We think so! We personally love Mardi Gras and the holidays at Universal, but let’s talk about all of the special events at Universal Studios today.
Before we get started, let me introduce myself. My name is Amy, and I’m a Universal Travel Agent, a travel blogger, and a long-time Universal Annual Passholder.
As both a Universal Travel Agent and mom who’s visited the parks more times than I can count, I’m here to help you plan your visit to Universal Orlando vacation with confidence! Contact me for more information if you’d like assistance in booking your Universal vacation at no cost to you.

Special events at Universal Orlando
Here is a list of special events at Universal Orlando.
If you’re flying into Orlando for your vacation, I recommend renting a car from Discount USA Car Rental. They offer the absolute best rates on rental cars; you don’t pay until you pick it up, and cancellation is free.
1. Universal Mardi Gras (Spring)
Mardi Gras at Universal Orlando is one of the park’s most popular annual events, and yes, it is very family-friendly! It usually runs from February through April and transforms Universal Studios Florida into a colorful street party.

You’ll find a nightly parade with beads, concerts on select nights, and performers around the park.
Our favorite part about Mardi Gras is the food; it’s really some of the best food you’ll find at Universal! You’ll find food booths from New Orleans and all around the world, such as Colombia, India, China, and lots more.

The nightly parade and floats are always a hit with kids, and we look forward to it every year. If you watch your Universal app, you may even see the opportunity to be part of the parade!

If I could only choose one special event at Universal to visit, it would be Mardi Gras.
2. Halloween Horror Nights (for teens)
Halloween Horror Nights is one of Universal’s most popular events, running from late August until just after Halloween. It’s packed with haunted houses, scare zones, and spooky entertainment, but it’s definitely designed for teens and adults.
If your kids are younger, this might be one to skip. The event is held after regular park hours, and the scariest decor is covered during the day, so don’t worry if you plan to visit during this time with little ones!

If you’re traveling with teens, HHN might be a huge fit! The creativity of the haunted houses and detailed sets are unmatched, and there are plenty of themed snacks and souvenirs. Remember, you’ll need a ticket for this, as it is not included with your park tickets.
If you’re wondering if Universal offers anything during this time for younger kids, they do not. I recommend hopping over to Disney for a night at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party if you want Halloween festivities for the little ones. We’re also Disney passholders, and I can help you plan a Disney vacation!
While Universal Studios closes a little early for HHN, you can still enjoy a later evening at Islands of Adventure or Epic Universe.
3. Holidays at Universal (November and December)
If you’ve never visited Universal during the holidays, it’s one of the most magical times of the year. At Islands of Adventure, the Grinch steals the show during Grinchmas. You can meet the Grinch himself (expect a hilarious encounter) and see the Grinchmas Who-liday Spectacular, a live retelling of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. By the way, this is one of the best movies to watch before going to Universal.

You’ll find the Holiday Parade featuring Macy’s balloons at Universal Studios. The massive balloons, festive floats, and confetti make it one of the best theme park parades in Florida. You’ll also find a Holiday Tribute store and special food offerings.
Christmas in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is always fun for the entire family. You’ll find holiday decor throughout Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley, holiday-themed shows, and hot Butterbeer for (possibly) chilly evenings or mornings.

Hotel guests can also enjoy seasonal decor, tree lighting ceremonies, and special holiday dining. Everything is included with your regular park tickets, unless you want to add a special holiday tour (more about that in our blog post linked below).
We love the holidays at Universal so much that we have a blog post with even more info! Check it out: The Holidays at Universal Orlando
4. Rock the Universe (January)
Rock the Universe is Florida’s biggest Christian music festival, held each January at Universal Studios Florida. It’s a weekend full of live music, worship sessions, and exclusive after-hours park access.
The event draws youth groups and families from around the country. Like HHN, this is separately ticketed, so keep that in mind!

5. Limited-time celebrations
Universal often offers smaller seasonal or limited-time celebrations throughout the year. These can include things like:
-
Themed treats for new movie releases, ride openings, or events such as the Olympics.
-
Pop-up experiences for park anniversaries or new attractions

Check out this medallion at Universal Studios for the Despicable Me 4 movie.
