Fast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando: What We Know So Far

Fast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal

Fast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando is officially getting a brand-new Fast and Furious attraction, and this time, it’s a true thrill ride. After years of mixed (mostly negative) reactions to the current Fast & Furious attraction, Universal has confirmed a high-speed coaster experience is coming to Universal Orlando Resort in 2027.

Is it really confirmed? YES! We were at Universal Orlando the day that the construction walls were re-done, showing this:

Before we get started and dive into theFast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal info, let me introduce myself. My name is Amy, and I’m a Universal Travel Agent, a travel blogger, and a long-time Universal Annual Passholder. Contact me for more information. I’d love to help you book your Universal Orlando vacation!

Since this blog post is all about CARS, why not rent one? If you’re flying into Orlando for your vacation, I recommend renting a car from Discount USA Car Rental. They offer the absolute best rates on rental cars; you don’t pay until you pick it up, and cancellation is free.

What Is the New Fast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando?

The new attraction will be an outdoor roller coaster inspired by the Fast & Furious film franchise. Universal has confirmed the ride will focus on speed, motion, and a unique “drifting” sensation designed to make riders feel like they’re inside a high-performance car.

While Universal hasn’t released every detail yet, we expect it will be much like the Hollywood version (more below).

The Fast and Furious roller coaster is expected to open in 2027 inside Universal Studios Florida and is replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. It will be nice to see a true roller coaster at Universal Studios again. Currently, the only coaster is The Mummy, which is an indoor dark roller coaster.

Will it be the same as Universal Studios Hollywood?

In one word, probably. Universal Orlando’s coaster is expected to be very similar to Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, which is debuting first at Universal Studios Hollywood.

The Hollywood version is being billed as a high-speed outdoor coaster with a 360-degree rotating ride vehicle that allows riders to feel like they’re drifting sideways through turns. It also features a dramatic vertical spike that sends riders straight up before plunging them back down, adding to the intense, adrenaline-filled experience.

While Universal Orlando hasn’t confirmed every element will be identical, Universal has indicated that the Florida version will follow the same core concept.

What’s Happening to the Old Fast & Furious Ride?

The current attraction, Fast & Furious Supercharged, will officially close in 2027.

Since opening, Supercharged has often been criticized for being slow, overly screen-focused, and lacking the excitement people associate with the Fast & Furious brand. It frequently ranks near the bottom of guest satisfaction lists and has developed a reputation as one of Universal Orlando’s least popular rides.

As a Universal Annual Passholder, we consider it the most hated ride at Universal Orlando. The best part about the ride was the queue! We’re glad to see it going, but what will replace it? Maybe something Ghostbusters or Jaws related.

Is Fast & Furious Supercharged closing permanently?
Yes. Fast & Furious Supercharged will close in 2027, finally.

Will the Orlando coaster be the same as the Hollywood one?
Universal has indicated the Orlando version will be very similar to the Hollywood ride, using the same drifting coaster concept and high-speed outdoor design.

Is this ride suitable for kids?
While official height requirements haven’t been released yet, this will likely be along the lines of the Velocicoaster and The Incredible Hulk, not a ride for young kids.

Fast and Furious Roller Coaster at Universal Orlando

The upcoming Fast and Furious roller coaster at Universal represents a major upgrade for the franchise at Universal Orlando. Replacing a widely disliked attraction with a true high-speed coaster shows that Universal is listening to our feedback.
