Building a Droid at Disney World

Building a Droid at Disney World

If you’re planning a Disney World vacation and looking for unique things to do at Disney, check out this guide to building a Droid at Disney World.

You’ll find Droid Depot in Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This is one of two popular hands-on things to do in Galaxy’s Edge: building a lightsaber or building a droid!

Plan your vacation with a Disney Travel Agent!

Before we get to the details of building a Droid at Disney World, let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Amy, and I’m a Florida resident, Disney Annual Passholder, and a Disney College of Knowledge graduate. I keep up with the latest Disney news; it’s my job! If you’re interested in saving lots of time by booking with a Disney Travel Agent, make sure to contact me!

Now, let’s talk about all the details of building a droid at Disney World.

By the way, there are other fun and unique things to do at Disney World, like making a custom tiara in Magic Kingdom!

Do you need a reservation to build a droid in Galaxy’s Edge?

If you’re visiting during a busy time, it’s best to get a reservation at Droid Depot. You can reserve your spot via the My Disney Experience app or website up to 60 days before your trip. Droid Depot accepts walk-ins, but you may have a long wait on a busy day.

Please keep in mind that you will be fully charged if you are a no-show, so make sure your reservation is one that works with your schedule.

We did not get a reservation because we were visiting on a slower park day. If you don’t have a reservation, try early or later in the day for the best chance of being able to walk in and build your droid.

Where is Droid Depot?

If you enter Galaxy’s Edge through Toy Story Land, Droid Depot is one of the first stops you’ll see. It is located right next to Savi’s Workshop, the place where guests can build custom lightsabers.

From the other entrance, you’ll need to go through Black Spire Marketplace and go down the stairs. Remember that the signs are in Aurebesh, but it’s still pretty easy to find thanks to all the droids outside. The droids outside also make for a great photo op once you’re droid is finished!

**You can purchase pre-made droids at Droid Depot, but we recommend the experience of building one yourself!

One builder and one helper are allowed in the droid building area. Anyone else is welcome to wait and take photos. The helper must be over 14 years old if the builder is a child.

The experience costs $119.99 and includes the pieces to build the droid, the experience of building it, a box, and a remote control. You can also purchase additional accessories, such as a personality chip or a backpack. The personality chip is $14.99, and I highly recommend purchasing it as part of the experience.

We did not opt for the backpack ($49.99), but honestly, that thing was pretty heavy, so I’d recommend getting one.

The fun part is customizing the droid however you’d like. You can choose from an R-series (like R2D2) or a BB-series (like BB-8.)

Once you’ve chosen your parts from the parts station, you’ll head to the building station. Cast Members are there to guide you if you need any assistance! Once your droid is put together, it will be activated.

The droid is interactive in Galaxy’s Edge, so make sure to walk around with it and see how it reacts!

Each droid also comes with full instructions, so you know what you can do with it at home.

Overall, this was a very fun experience that my son had looked forward to for a while. It was definitely the highlight of his day, and a must for any Star Wars fan!

I hope this guide to building a Droid at Disney World was helpful! Have you build a Droid at Droid Depot or a Lightsaber at Savi’s Workshop? If so, let us know about your experience in the comments!

This was a “must-do” for my son, and we can highly recommend it!
