What is a ghost room at Universal Orlando?

What is a ghost room at Universal? If you’ve heard the term “ghost room” at Universal but aren’t sure what it means. You’re in the right place!

Now, let’s talk about ghost rooms at Universal Orlando Resort.

So, what is a ghost room at Universal?

Essentially, a ghost room at Universal Orlando is a room at a Premier (now called Signature Collection) Resort that includes free Express Passes. The room is purchased but not necessarily stayed in. Those resorts are: Loews Royal Pacific, Loews Portofino Bay, and Hard Rock Hotel.

  • Hard Rock Hotel offers a vibrant and immersive experience that combines the excitement of rock-n-roll with the luxury of a premier resort. The hotel is decorated with an extensive collection of music memorabilia and has a pool that plays music underwater.
  • Loews Royal Pacific offers guests a luxurious escape to a tropical island paradise reminiscent of the South Seas. Think Hawaii, but in Florida. There’s even a luau!
  • Loews Portofino Bay Hotel transports guests to the Italian Riviera. The hotel features cobblestone streets and charming Italian architecture.

How does a ghost room at Universal work?

So, let’s say a family of five books a week at Cabana Bay Beach Resort in a family suite. However, they look at Express Passes, which cost over $1000/day. Another option is to book a “ghost room,” which often costs as little as $600. This room gives you not one but two days of Express Passes.

It can be confusing now that Universal has “Signature Collection” resorts, including some that do not include Express Pass! You can read more about the resorts that do include Express Passes here: Which Universal Orlando hotels offer Express Pass?

Are ghost rooms at Universal allowed?

Technically, yes! I have personally called Universal to add them to clients’ reservations. They are certainly not advertised, but they are not forbidden either. This is a great “workaround” for those wanting Express Passes but not wanting to pay the high cost.

Why not just stay at a premier resort the entire time? If you have the budget for it, I recommend that! However, many people can’t afford $600+/night just for a hotel, and that’s okay!

Pro-tip: Loews Royal Pacific usually has the lowest cost room that includes an Express Pass.

Do Express Passes include park admission?

No, Express Passes do not include park admission. Even with an Express Pass (from a hotel stay, ghost room, or separate purchase), you must have a valid theme park entry.

Universal often runs promos on tickets, and sometimes, there are special travel agent-only rates! Contact me to check on the best promos for your preferred travel dates.
