Worst rides for motion sickness at Universal Orlando
These are the worst rides for motion sickens at Universal Orlando. If you get motion sickness, avoid these rides or take any necessary precautions. Universal Orlando is famous for fantastic screen rides, but you might be wondering if some of these rides will make you sick.
Unfortunately, if you’re prone to motion sickness, a few rides at Universal may not be right for you. As someone who loves rides – but has some pretty severe motion sickness – I wanted to share the worst rides for motion sickness at Universal Orlando.
In our family, I have the worst motion sickness. Kainan has moderate motion sickness, and Garrick has mild motion sickness. So it’s fair to say we know what we are talking about! Kainan and Garrick can go on most of these rides with minimal issues, so know that you may still be able to enjoy the rides at Universal, even with motion sickness.
Don’t forget that even if you skip these rides, you can still go through the queue (line) because Universal Orlando has some of the best ride queues around! If you plan to go on these rides anyway, just make sure to use whatever helps your motion sickness before you go!
Our go-to for rental cars in Orlando
If you rent a car in Orlando, I recommend renting a car from Discount USA Car Rental. Whenever I need to rent a car, I use Discount USA Car Rental, whether I fly to Orlando International Airport, Sanford, or even Tampa. They have the best prices, and you don’t have to pay until you pick it up!
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
If you’re visiting Universal for the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you’ll be disappointed that one of the most popular rides can cause some pretty severe motion sickness!
This combination thrill ride/screen ride can be a bit scary for some (dementors, spiders, and dragons, oh my!), but the screen portions of the ride can bring on some serious motion sickness.
The queue is easily one of the best at Universal; I mean, it’s Hogwarts Castle! Don’t skip the queue even if you decide to skip the ride. I personally still ride it occasionally but close my eyes during the screen portions. In the queue, you’ll find all the sights of Hogwarts, including talking portraits and the sorting hat.
You’ll also catch some of your favorite Harry Potter characters – Harry, Hermione, Ron, and even Dumbledore himself!
Even if you skip the ride, don’t miss the queue! It’s one of the best ride queues at Universal Orlando.
Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem
Unfortunately, one of the cutest rides at Universal is one of the worst for motion sickness at Universal. Becoming a minion is quite the experience! The queue and pre-shows are very cute, so it’s worth going through even if you do not ride.
You can request to sit on the benches in the front, but if anything, I found this worse because I was closer to the screen. Garrick loves this ride, so I go on it with him and close my eyes for most of it.
If your motion sickness is minor, you might be okay except for the drop into the explosive area and the “ride” at the very end.
The Simpsons Ride
The kids love this ride, and I’ve been on it once. Fans of the show will love the humor, and it has the excitement of a thrill ride without actually being a thrill ride.
However, this ride was too much for me and made me feel pretty sick! You won’t miss out on Simpson’s fun if you decide to skip it. Universal Studios has a dedicated “Springfield” area with another ride (Twirl ‘n’, Hurl-which is ironically not as bad for motion sickness) along with arcade games, Moe’s Tavern, Duff Brewery, Kwik-e-Mart, Character Meet and Greets, and more.
Race through New York starring Jimmy Fallon
I’ll be honest; I haven’t watched The Tonight Show in years (since Jay Leno), so much of this ride didn’t make sense to me. I’ve been on it once, and I forget it exists. It just wasn’t memorable to me. If you’re a huge fan of Jimmy Fallon or The Tonight Show, you might want to check it out. Just be aware that certain parts can cause motion sickness.
As it states in the name, it is a race with simulated high speeds and twists and turns that can leave you not feeling well. Unless you are a fan of the show, it might be worth skipping.
Transformers
I do not find Transformers or the Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man as bad as some of the rides previously listed. Each has certain spots where you might feel queasy (think simulated drops), but the motion sickness isn’t as bad overall.
Fans of the movies will love the ride, and the queue is a lot of fun too! Of all of the rides on this list of the worst for motion sickness at Universal, this is the one I can ride with the least amount of problems.
A little throwback to when Kainan was shorter than me!
The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man
As I just mentioned, I don’t find this ride to be the worst for motion sickness, although there are a few spots where I have to close my eyes or suffer the consequences. The most significant problem is a freefall close to the ride’s end. If you decide to try it out, be aware of when this is coming, as it might not sit well with you.
By the way, did you know that you can spot Stan Lee four times on this ride? It’s true! Keep an eye out and see if you can find them all. Hint: one is near the beginning of the ride, while three are at the end.
Storm Force Accelatron
Storm Force Accelatron is a “teacup” style ride. I’ve never been on it and never will. Although I love the theming, this is not a ride that would work for me! You know exactly what it is when you see it, so you’ll probably know to avoid it.
Garrick now avoids this ride because he says he feels sick after!
Bonus: The Bourne Stuntacular
It’s worth mentioning that the popular show, The Bourne Stuntacular, also has moments where I feel pretty sick. I still think it’s worth seeing, but just know that it’s a very immersive “show” with large screens and may cause motion sickness for some.
