Wizarding World of Harry Potter Rides
If you’re planning a Universal Orlando vacation as a Harry Potter fan, you need to check out all the Wizarding World of Harry Potter rides! This is a list of Harry Potter rides at Universal Orlando. There are six Harry Potter rides spread out between three of the four Universal Orlando theme parks.
Did you know that Universal Orlando is comprised of 4 theme parks?! It’s true. Volcano Bay is Universal’s water park, and Universal also has three traditional theme parks: Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe. To truly explore the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, you need a park-to-park ticket for Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure, plus a ticket for Epic Universe!
When you’re done here, you may want to check out a complete list of rides at Universal Orlando.

Now, let’s get to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter rides!
Rides in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter
Here are all the rides in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. We are going to show these rides, along with all the important information, for each park!
Wizarding World rides at Universal Studios
Here are the two Wizarding World rides in Universal Studios, although one of them is also a way to use your park-to-park ticket to get to Islands of Adventure!
Hogwarts Express (Kings Cross Station)
Location: London (NOT in Diagon Alley itself)
Height Requirements: None
Motion Sickness Warning: No
Fun Fact: The experience between Hogsmeade and London differs from the experience between London and Hogsmeade. Make sure to ride it both ways! Also, the only way to ride the Hogwarts Express is to have a park-to-park ticket, so ensure you have that and not a base ticket.
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts
This is a true hybrid ride between a roller coaster and a screen/3D ride. While it has a few thrills, it is generally family-friendly. This ride is based on Harry, Hermione, and Ron escaping from Gringotts bank. This is my personal favorite ride in the Wizarding World, and maybe in all of Universal!
We have a video of all the rides in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter too!
Location: Diagon Alley
Height Requirements: 42″
Motion Sickness Warning: Not much
Fun Fact: The dragon above the entrance to this ride breathes fire about every 10 minutes. Make sure to have your camera out!
Wizarding World rides at Islands of Adventure
Here are the three Wizarding World rides in Islands of Adventure. The Hogsmeade Station for the Hogwarts Express is here too, but we will skip it since we already mentioned the Hogwarts Express.
Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure
Hagrid’s is considered one of the best rides in all of Universal. It is easily the most technical and complicated rollercoaster in the parks. In fact, it may be one of the most technical and complex roller coasters ever!
This ride takes place in the Forbidden Forest. Join Hagrid and encounter Buckbeak, Aragog, Centaurs, Unicorns, and other magical creatures. This unique roller coaster contains launches, backward sections, a drop, and thrills at every turn.
Location: Hogsmeade
Height Requirements: 48″
Motion Sickness Warning: Slightly, during the backward section
Fun Fact: This ride often has to shut down because of its complexity. The line is almost always the longest for any attraction, and visiting first thing in the morning or later in the evening is best. We have a blog post that talks about it: The problem with Hagrid’s Motorbike Adventure
Flight of the Hippogriff
Flight of the Hippogriff is a family-friendly “kiddie-coaster” with great views of Hogwarts Castle. There’s not much to this ride, but it’s lots of fun for the littlest coaster fans. Try riding it at night for a fun experience, especially during any nighttime light shows on the castle!
Location: Hogsmeade
Height Requirements: 36″
Motion Sickness Warning: No
Fun Fact: This was originally called “The Flying Unicorn” and was re-themed when Hogsmeade opened.
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey
Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is one of the most highly themed rides. Even when there is a long wait time, the queue is very immersive. Even if you don’t want to ride, the queue is worth walking through!
This combination thrill ride (not truly a coaster)/dark ride/screen ride offers a bit of everything. Be warned that the screen parts can cause pretty severe motion sickness. This was the first A Kuka-arm system ride at Universal Orlando, but now there is another one at Epic Universe.
Location: Hogsmeade
Height Requirements: 48″
Motion Sickness Warning: Yes, during many of the screen parts of this ride. It’s only doable for me if I have my motion sickness wristband.
Fun Fact: The original design for this ride called for a lot more Dementors. However, J.K. Rowling said she did not want it to be too scary, so there are only a few.
Wizarding World rides at Epic Universe
Sadly, like Diagon Alley, there’s only one ride in the Ministry of Magic at Epic Universe. However, it’s a good one!
Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry – A combination thrill/motion simulator/dark ride, it has some similar features to Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Type: Dark ride
Height Requirement: 40″
